DISTANCE LEARNING
The distance learning mode of course delivery allows each student
to determine the pace of self-study. Students are not required to attend any formal activities at any of the universities.
Approximately 10-12 hours should be available for study every week-
throughout the duration of the course. Advice on study methods and study planning will be available. All assignments will
have a fixed deadline for submission. They will however be well spaced to allow sufficient time and flexibility in the study
plan for the preparation of formal reports. Each student is assigned a mentor who can be contacted by telephone fax or e-mail.
In addition, for group project work, students will be assigned to study groups.
The technology most appropriate to the course requirements and
student needs will be utilised. It is foreseen that this will include:
- Traditional distance learning materials e.g. books,
lecture notes.
- Computer conferencing or e-mail for sending messages,
assignment feedback and targeted communication.
- Interactive audio and video-conferencing. This can
provide real time face -to -face or voice -to -voice
interaction.
- Pre- recorded videotapes to present class lectures and visually
oriented content.
